Soccer Football is my favorite sport so this summer has been super exciting for me. When I think of summer, the first thing that I think of are hot dogs and all the delicious fixings you can put on them. I figured, why not combine a summer classic with my love of football? I came up with a few winning twists to it by topping the dogs with globally inspired toppings. Instead of sticking to the good ol’ ketchup, mustard, relish and onions, I’ve added fresh toppings inspired by Greece, South Korea and Honduras.
Let’s fire up the grill and kick-off with a Greek-inspired hot dog!
When I think Greek, I think about yogurt, feta, and other zesty ingredients.
Greek style toppings:
- Greek yogurt sauce
- Mix together:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh dill
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- Mix together:
- Matchstick cut cucumbers
- Diced tomatoes
- Feta cheese
Next up is a Korean style hot dog inspired by the key Korean ingredients like kimchi, gojuchang and green onions.
Korean style toppings:
- Gochujang mayo
- Mix together:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons gochujang Korean chile paste
- Mix together:
- Kimchi
- Sliced green onions
- Fried egg
The next hot dog is inspired by baleadas, a popular Honduran street food. These tasty tortillas are traditionally filled with refried beans, crema, avocados, and a white crumbly cheese. If you take these elements, turn it into a hot dog topping, and finish it with some hot sauce, you’ll have a real winner on your hands.
Honduran style toppings:
- Refried beans
- Sour cream
- Queso fresco
- Avocado
- Hot sauce
If you ask me, all of these topping ideas are 3-point [winning] ideas!
